We must begin to use our self determination to create ceremonies that matter to our youth. We must create our own traditions, in ways that our children will replicate in their own families. What suggestions do yo have for possible Rites of Passage activities that can be incorporated into the ceremonies? What types of lessons should the initieates cover? For males, there is the book ,"Vision of Black Men" by NJai'm Akbar and for girls, "Restoring the Goddess Black Woman" by Akil. What age should the initiates begin the process? How long should it take? Lets start building!

I am grateful to have found your page, Sister, or I have missed this site for a while longer. As I've had my elekes for four (4) years, I can say that anyone at anytime should embark on this journey. When I have my own children in a healthy traditional environment, they will be exposed from birth to ascension.

This is true......This rites of passage should take place at 13 years old. This event should be a week long process. Kids should learn about knowledge of self. How to protect and help build up there communities. Children need to feel empowered and made to feel like they have something to offer the world. They NEED to be rewarded all times for good behavior. We as adults need to have programs in the community that would help serve the needs of OUR children. They need too see Black people in professions such as dentist, architects, entrepreneur, etc. Last we need to have economics structures in our communities , so that when our kids go to school and do right...they can come back and work in the community that they grew up in.
